Law of Attraction: A Cautionary Tale Part One

I have wanted to write something on the Law of Attraction for some time now but every time I start to think about the topic or begin to write, I stop. I was unsure as to why so I set it aside up until this point. Today I realized why. Many “teachers” discuss the Law of Attraction at great length as if they have a secret insight into the hidden mysteries of the universe and speak as if they have completely mastered something that we have only just begun to become aware of.

They act and speak as if they understand every single facet of the Law of Attraction and that is why I have not yet written on the subject. In all honesty that is why this site contains so few posts to date. The topics that I wish to discuss have been known throughout all the ages but many different understandings have been formed about what it all means; the Law of Attraction included. I wanted to write a comprehensive explanation of the Law of Attraction and even though I have been working with the Law of Attraction for years now I feel as if I only have a preschool understanding of this great law. So many act as if they have a college degree on this topic when in truth they are not even in first grade yet, by my opinion none of us are. There is so much still to be understood about the Law of Attraction, so many variables to account for, and so much still to explore. It seems to be a very simple law at face value (as do many things) “like attracts like”. But, what does that really mean and how far does that really go?

I feel that up until now this topic has been viewed and studied almost as literature or poetry would be studied and not as a science, which it very clearly is. Granted, I am a bit out of touch with the latest developments in all this so this article may be a bit behind the times in saying that, but I still think it needs to be said for those just starting out on the journey to understanding our world and how we interact with it. I decided some time ago to stop learning from people that can’t admit that they are still learning. When trying to understand something that we do not yet fully understand it is very dangerous to act as if you have it all figured out. I know that it may seem that no one will want to learn from someone who is still learning but aren’t we all still learning no matter how learned we may be? Even the greatest minds like Albert Einstein were figuring it out right up until the end. My hope for Mental Impressions is to share the tools that we know will work because we’ve tested them ourselves and express ideas not in the form of concrete facts but as a discussion that is open to debate. We all see things from different points of views and from different angles and to ever fully understand the universe, the Laws governing it, and how we play into that we must discuss, not claim supreme understanding. This is not mathematics as it is now this is mathematics when it started, yes, there are formulas and constants but we are still figuring those out. This is not a forum for public speakers to grab a few bits of scattered knowledge and run with. This should be being carefully maintained and advanced by great minds that are doing great things with it in order to help mankind better understand and live in harmony with the world that we have been gifted. There are few things that are what they are and leave no room for debate, sadly the people of this world decide to argue the unarguable but blindly accept that which should be better analyzed and debated, such as the Law of Attraction and this whole new movement of self discovery and understanding. I am all for better utilizing the world around us but first we must stop to think, not just take the first understanding we come to and run with it. Ask questions, explore, question what has been said, dare to declare “I think you may be wrong, even though you do have seven New York Times Best Sellers,” because, let’s be honest, that’s just business and does not dictate truth, understanding, and expertise-just really good marketing. In this media machine that the United States of America has created anyone can be number one over night. That being said, there are many who have worked hard to get there but even still some who have worked hard got there on selling half thought out information. This world is not cut and dried and nor are the Laws that govern it; there are infinite variables to consider.

I have observed many things since becoming aware of the Law of Attraction. You can crawl with it or you can run with it, it can be sharpened and honed, or it can just be mistakenly thrust around. Properly using the Law of Attraction is an art form, not just a simple understanding of, “like attracts like”. For example, if you just focus on “Money” you may attract pictures of money, people with money, thoughts of money, the possibilities are potentially endless. You can further this by saying, “receive money”, but even still you may find it while on a walk, get it from a friend, or notice that you received money you’ve always received, again the possibilities are endless. Now let’s say you are goal oriented and you want your business to earn money, you can then refine your attraction. I would say “Mental Impressions earns money” but even still it can be further refined, maybe I should say “Mental Impressions earns money utilizing Google AdSense”. I could keep going for a very long time and have actually gone through this process myself with this site and many of my past businesses, focusing my efforts with a fine tooth comb. I am a bit of a perfectionist, which if you knew who I was before I started on this journey to understand our world better you would burst out in laughter. I keep going not just because I want to fully understand but because I also want to be able to explain it to others. I have noticed that far too many people stop exploring or learning and just accept what they first come across as the end all be all. You have to keep going, keep digging, keep learning; this is the difference between the average and the great. The greats are never satisfied with their understanding of that which they study because they know from experience that there is probably more to it.
