Finding God When He Feels Far Away

When God seems distant, it can shake us. We wonder if we’ve done something wrong, if He still hears our prayers, or if we’re truly alone. These moments of spiritual dryness or silence can be painful—but they’re not unusual. Many faithful people in the Bible, from David to Job to even Jesus, experienced times when God felt far away.

But here’s the truth: God never truly leaves us. His presence is constant, even when we can’t feel it. Just as clouds can block the sun without removing it from the sky, our emotions or circumstances can cloud our awareness of God—but He remains.

During these times, we are invited to lean into faith, not feelings. To remember that He promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). Sometimes, God is quiet because He’s teaching us to trust. Or because He’s already given us what we need. Or maybe—just maybe—He’s closer than ever, working in ways we cannot yet see.

If you’re in a season where God feels far away, speak these affirmations aloud. Let the truth of His Word anchor your heart, even in the silence.
