The world can be overwhelming. The news is heavy, social media is loud, and stress creeps in from every direction. But even in the midst of it all, we have a choice. We can choose where to place our focus, what to absorb, and how to respond. I recently came across some affirmations that I like and that I am trying to learn to live by.
I choose positivity.
I choose happiness.
I see both all around me.
Positivity isn’t about ignoring reality. It’s about deciding that no matter what happens, you will look for the good. It’s about finding the small joys—the kindness of a stranger, a warm cup of coffee, the laughter of a child. It’s about recognizing that even on the hardest days, light still exists.
I am reminded of the famous Mr. Rogers quote:
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
When things seem too hard, it’s good for us to remember to look for the helpers and to look for the good that is in opposition to the bad. We need to stay strong and not lose hope; one of the best ways to do this is to make the choice to focus on the positivity we see and not get lost in the negativity.
Happiness isn’t a destination; it’s a decision. We don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect to feel joy. We can create it in the way we speak to ourselves, in the way we treat others, and in the gratitude we cultivate each day.
If life feels heavy right now, take a breath. Look around. Choose to see something good, something beautiful. It’s there, waiting for you to notice.
Choose to do something good. Call a friend that could use a cup of coffee and a kind ear, or maybe you have a neighbor that needs help shoveling their driveway. Be the helper that someone else needs to see.
Even in a chaotic world, we still have control over what we choose to see and do. And today, I choose positivity. I choose happiness. I choose hope.
And I hope you do too. 💛
