Life doesn’t always go the way we hope. Sometimes, the days feel heavy, our hearts ache, and the future looks uncertain. Yet even in these moments, God calls us to give thanks—not because everything is perfect, but because He is.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, we’re told:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Notice it doesn’t say to give thanks for all circumstances, but in them. Gratitude in hard times is an act of trust—acknowledging that God is still good, still working, and still with us. When we choose thankfulness, we shift our focus from what’s missing to what’s eternal.
Here are seven affirmations, grounded in Scripture, to help you hold on to gratitude even when life is hard:
7 Biblical Affirmations for Thankfulness in Trials
- God is with me, even in this.
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.” – Isaiah 41:10 - God is working this for my good.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.” – Romans 8:28 - I choose to give thanks today.
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24 - God’s peace guards my heart.
